What is a Bone Graft?
Bone grafting is a procedure that allows a skilled doctor to replace bone that has been lost from within the jaw or in the sinus cavity. Jaw bone loss is often a result of advanced gum disease, trauma or missing teeth that have not been replaced. The bone tissue surrounding your teeth is what keeps them in place, and allows them to function properly. When significant bone loss occurs, teeth become unstable and are at high risk of being lost. Dental implants, like natural teeth, need a sufficient amount of bone to be placed successfully. If you have suffered bone loss around existing teeth or need to replace missing teeth with dental implants, a bone graft may be part of your treatment.
Types of Bone Grafting Procedures We Offer
A bone graft works by replenishing depleted bone volume with the use of bone tissue in the form of granules. These granules are derived from your own body, a bone bank or from a non-human source (typically bovine). As highly skilled periodontists, Dr. Marvin Price and Dr. Kenneth Gewant routinely perform several types of bone graft procedures.
Bone Regeneration to Save TeethThe process of encouraging bone regrowth around teeth to increase support and longevity. Bone regeneration helps save teeth and improve oral function.
Ridge AugmentationRebuilds the jaw arch by adding bone tissue to areas in need and restoring facial contours. This procedure strengthens and increases bone to enable tooth replacement with dental implants.
Ridge PreservationPerformed at the time of tooth extraction by adding bone to spaces left by tooth roots. Ridge preservation prepares missing teeth sites for future dental implant placement.
Sinus LiftEnables replacement of upper premolar and molar teeth with dental implants. A sinus lift gently raises the sinus floor to allow for bone grafting by adding bone tissue in or around the maximally sinus, increasing bone height and volume.
Advanced Technology Improves Comfort
We are committed to helping you achieve optimal periodontal health through comfortable, positive experiences. Our sedation dentistry options ensure you enjoy a pain-free procedure in total comfort. We offer the latest in advanced technology when performing bone graft procedures. Dr. Price and Dr. Gewant are highly trained in PIEZOSURGERY® and guided tissue regeneration. PIEZOSURGERY® is a high-frequency ultrasonic technique used to augment bone, without harming soft tissues. Guided tissue regeneration helps your body naturally regrow gum and bone tissue through strategic placement of biocompatible barrier membranes. These advanced techniques may be used during your treatment plan depending on the severity of your case.
